Over the years, internet searchers have changed a lot and so has their way of searching, believing, and reacting. To put it in simple words, friends and networks are more listened to than marketers. Then, why not befriending first and creating your own huge network of friends to market your thing to them?

This is what the social media presence of an online business does; it helps you create a huge network of friends, who listen to what you say, share your stuffs, visit your site, and even buy stuffs from there. Again, it also gets you more visibility and exposure and at times your Twitter or LinkedIn profiles or Facebook pages get displayed for certain search terms.

But to be straightforward, it is not that simple as that, you need to work it out well, if you really want it work for you. Remember, if you know how to use your social media presence, the other users out there aren’t fools either, they know it pretty well how the marketers are using the social sites lately!

And this makes it essential for you to get hold of some effective tips for social media usage.

1. Befriend Only in your Niche.
Don’t follow those on Twitter who have nothing in common with your niche, nor send a friend request to a Facebook user who hasn’t any interest in your subject. Of course, some exceptions can be there, one or two of them can be those who have nothing to do with your niche, this will look natural, but it shouldn’t more.

Again, don’t send too many of friend requests on Facebook nor follow hundreds of Twitterers on the same day, this will make you appear more like a spammer. Facebook may even ban you if the things go worse. And on Twitter, there is a limitation for following people, if you’ll keep following every second person, you may soon reach the limit, and then it won’t be possible for you to follow anymore.

2. Speak, Share, do Anything, Be Active.
Don’t behave like a lousily boring person, people will soon stop following you on Twitter, and your Facebook likes will also decrease pretty soon. Nobody likes to follow a Twitterer who has no tweets to update and it is the same for your presence on any other social media sites like Facebook or YouTube. Speak something, share things – in simple words be active.

If you write articles or you have some informative articles in your knowledge which are related to your niche simply share them on Facebook or tweet their links and let your friends and followers be benefitted by that. And if you have your own YouTube channel, keep updating it with recent videos related to your niche. You can even post your videos shot in your office or company like any conference or seminar that your company recently conducted.

3. Don’t Post Useless and Unnecessary Content.
If you aren’t a rock star or a Hollywood diva, nobody would take interest in what you ate in the breakfast, what places you like going for holidays, etc. Of course you can let your friends know about all these things but only through your personal accounts. When it comes to your professional account, you need to deal with it professionally. You can’t think yourself to be a Justine Bieber or Lady Gaga, sharing every little thing that happens with you all through the day.

Remember your social media profiles are no less than your online business cards, surely you won’t think of damaging them out? Your profile pages even get displayed in the search engines for certain set of search terms, so you can’t think of spoiling your reputation?

Post only what’s needed – latest happenings from your company, any newsworthy updates. In case nothing seems to happening regularly, share related stuffs.

Simply don’t miss out these tips for social media usage and see your social media presence working well.
